Beam Screens for inner triplets of HL-LHC – te-dep-crg-ci.web.cern.ch

Validation of the thermal performance of the beam screens for the inner triplets of the HL-LHC was completed in March 2019.

A horizontal cryostat was refurbished for this project, including a separate cryostat that houses superfluid helium circuits that simulate the cold bore environment in the HL-LHC and a new pulse tube refrigerator and cold circulator to condition the flow on the beam screen. The beam screen is inserted into a double-walled cold bore that contains the pressurised He II bath, that is in turn connected to the He II saturated bath by the heatmeter.
