The Cryolab offers a variety of experimental test stations and infrastructure. LHe cryostats of 200 mm x 1.2 m, 350 mm x 1.6 m (1.8m) and 500 mm x 1.8 m are available for tests (cryostat inserts are adapted to client needs). Several dedicated cryostat set-ups guarantee reproducible measurements of standard cryogenic material properties:
- Electrical properties of material samples of thin films on dielectric substrate or foils up to bulk metals and superconductors - RRR
- Test stand for Tc measurement of SC thin films
- Test stand for the SC cable splice resistance of LHC type and new methods
- Thermal conductivity and diffusivity of metals, insulators and compound materials
- Thermal expansion of samples with a defined geometry in a Pyrex® double tube dilatometer. The new currently commissioned Michelson-interferometer based dilatometer will enable measurements in a much wider range of sample geometries and from 4.5 K to 293 K
- Gas permeability of helium through membranes in collaboration with TE/VSC
- Variable temperature cryostat insert
- Solenoidal magnetic field background cryostat for up to 5 T, sample in vacuum or LHe condition
